How We Test & Review Golf Simulators

We are an editorial research site. We do not personally test launch monitors or simulator hardware.

Our ratings and recommendations are based on aggregated owner reviews, manufacturer specifications, independent reviewer scores, and community discussions. We disclose all data sources in each review.

GolfSimulatorSource uses a data-driven, multi-source research methodology. We aggregate and analyze the largest available dataset of owner experiences, manufacturer specifications, and community discussions to give you the most accurate picture of each product.

Our Data Sources

1. Owner Reviews & Community Data

We analyze thousands of discussions from r/golfsimulators, GolfSimulatorForum, GolfWRX, and MyGolfSpy forums. This gives us real-world performance data, failure patterns, and satisfaction trends from actual long-term owners — not just first impressions.

2. Verified Purchase Reviews

We aggregate verified buyer reviews from Amazon, PlayBetter, Rain or Shine Golf, and other major retailers. We cross-reference ratings across sources to identify consistent patterns and filter out outlier opinions.

3. Manufacturer Specifications

Every specification listed on our site is verified directly against official product pages, spec sheets, and support documentation. We don't repeat marketing copy — we verify numbers.

4. Expert & Industry Sources

We incorporate data from independent launch monitor accuracy studies, PGA teaching professional feedback, and golf technology publications to contextualize our findings.

How We Score Products

Every product receives a score across five weighted criteria:

Shot Tracking Accuracy (30%)

The most critical factor. We analyze owner reports of ball speed, spin rate, and launch angle accuracy vs. on-course play or Trackman. We weight consistent accuracy over cherry-picked demo conditions.

Software & Simulation Quality (25%)

Course library, simulation realism, online features, update cadence, and long-term software support track record.

Price-to-Performance Ratio (20%)

How does the product compare to alternatives at the same price point? We update pricing quarterly to keep comparisons current.

Setup & Space Requirements (15%)

Ease of installation, required ceiling height, mat requirements, and compatibility with common home setups (garage, basement, dedicated room).

Long-Term Reliability (10%)

Based on owner reports after 12+ months of use: component durability, customer service responsiveness, and software stability.

How We Calculate Aggregate Ratings

Our aggregate rating is a mathematically weighted average of the five criteria above, applied according to the percentages listed. A product can score 4.8/5.0 in accuracy but 3.2/5.0 overall if setup complexity or software quality pulls the weighted average down.

We update ratings when significant new owner data becomes available — typically quarterly for popular products. Minor corrections (pricing, specifications) are applied on a rolling basis.
